Seasonal Garage Door Maintenance

Problems with your garage door usually start as jerky movements when opening or closing the door. This can sometimes be the first sign of a problem. By checking your garage door twice a year, you can ensure that it remains in optimal working order.

A well-maintained garage door is relatively quiet as it moves up and down. Inspect the tracks on both sides of the door to make sure they are free of debris and rust. Inspect and replace the rollers along the edge of the garage door at least twice a year.

The door should be balanced by the springs so that minimal force is required to open it. If your garage door is not balanced correctly, the garage door opener will have to work harder.

The rubber weatherstripping along the bottom of the door helps keep out the cold and water, dust, and dirt. Older garage doors that do not have a weather strip should be replaced.

Inspect the door itself when you are checking out the other components.
